So many things that Trump is doing to avoid the topic and release of the Epstein files, some have merit, some don’t.

Donald Trump is currently focused on key priorities for his administration including

border security, the economy (tariffs and inflation), energy independence, and government accountability. Discussions around these topics often include a mix of factual information and claims that have been challenged by independent fact-checkers.

Key Topics and Associated Facts/Fiction

Border Security & Immigration

Facts:

  • The Trump administration has pursued an aggressive approach to border security, including plans for a large-scale deportation operation and ending the previous administration’s “catch-and-release” policies.
  • New policies have been implemented that allow country-specific factors to be used as negative factors in immigration requests, particularly following recent security incidents.

Fiction/Misleading Claims:

  • Claims that enhanced border security alone can solve the complex issues of illegal immigration are a simplification; success also depends on a range of other factors and legal challenges are ongoing.

Economy

Facts:

  • Trump has announced an “America First Trade Policy” and has discussed using tariffs as a key part of his economic strategy, with the potential to fund tax cuts.
  • He has also signed executive orders related to the economy, such as adjusting imports of timber and lumber.

Fiction/Misleading Claims:

  • Trump has falsely claimed there is “no inflation” and that the rate is “down to 2%, even less than 2%”. In fact, there is inflation, and the rate was around 3% as of September 2025.
  • His claims of a $21 trillion investment boom resulting from his policies overstate the actual figure; analyses place the real investment pledges closer to $7 trillion.
  • While Trump suggests tariffs are paid by other countries, the economic reality is that tariffs generally raise prices for domestic consumers.

Energy & Environment

Facts:

  • A key priority is to “unleash American energy” by rescinding regulations from the Biden administration and focusing on domestic production of traditional fuel sources.
  • The administration is also ending leases for large wind farms.

Fiction/Misleading Claims:

  • Policies prioritize traditional energy sources while downplaying or ignoring the scientific consensus on climate change and the need for renewable energy transition.

Government Accountability & Executive Actions

Facts:

  • President Trump has aimed to reform the federal bureaucracy by freezing hiring in non-essential areas and ordering federal workers to return to in-person work.
  • He announced his intention to cancel all executive orders signed by former President Biden using an autopen.

Fiction/Misleading Claims:

  • The idea that the government is being “weaponized” against political rivals is a persistent claim; however, this is a matter of intense political debate, with legal actions proceeding through the court system.

Why It Matters

Understanding the difference between fact and fiction in political discourse is crucial for informed citizenship and decision-making. Fact-checking helps to hold leaders accountable and ensures that policies are debated based on shared truths and verifiable data, rather than potentially misleading statements designed to influence public opinion.
